Affirmations are statements made by you repeatedly to reprogram the Unconscious. We often think thoughts to ourselves as we go about our daily life but affirmations are carefully chosen statements designed to create change in our lives. A simple common one is "each day I am getting better and better". The idea being that thinking this or saying this throughout the day will bring about a "better" condition. I think if you look deeper you can have more impact on the Unconscious and take full advantage of your affirmations. Affirmations need to done in one of two manors either it must be believeable by itself or you must reduce the task or goal to believeable chunks. Unbelieveable goals or desires that are affirmed often fail for obvious reasons-the Unconscious simply considers the command a fantasy-not workable. This is not to say you should not strive high which you can and should do but you must start where you are in life.
To begin the Unconscious sees a constant stream of thoughts running through your mind daily and most of the time it simply ignores them. To get the attention of the Unconscious you need to create a ritual or special moment something that sets this time apart from the rest. This can be a simple thing such as closing the eyes and gently holding or slowing down the breath or something as complex as creating a special place. A little experimentation will show you to what degree you need to do this.
Next, you need to consider your words. Anyone can say "I am getting happier and happier" but that is not likely to lead you to significant change. The statement is simply too broad or general. A similar example for some wanting to heal an old wound would be an affirmation "each day I am getting healthier and healthier". It is not that you will not feel healthier you will but this in itself because it is so broad may not address the old injury. Another approach would be to name the healing area "each day my heart is healing, renewing itself and getting stronger". This would direct the healing to the organ. Or, "what I eat and drink plus my rest is all I need to heal my back". Or, "as I live this day I am renewing myself at all levels". Or, "even now here I am healing myself". Or, "my pain is weakening and drifting from me as my body heals and is renewed". Or, "I now heal at all levels". If you can make it a rhyme it would be even more powerful because the Unconscious likes a rhyme. A simple example, "I heal my knee and it's pain free". Or, "dreams to me are doors to be free". Use your own words and think in terms of power words that make a clear message. If you were raised in a religous environment or there is any chance you may feel unworthy insert the words "through Grace" before your basic affirmation.
Quality versus quantity is an old discussion. I think quality or performing an affirmation with feeling is far more important than repetition. You want to say "I am healing" with such conviction and confidence that you feel goosebumps rise and move accross your arms or back. This is how you do it correctly and no amount of repetition will match that single time.
