My father, several years before his death and in his late seventies, developed prostate cancer. I was told his PSA at this point was 327. He was at the
same time loosing his short term memory. We decided to do the suggested medical treatment where they sever
the nerves to stop the production of testosterone. This made a small reduction in his PSA. Due to his memory loss he kept wandering off from my house so I placed him in a nursing home. I discussed
acupuncture with him and he agreed to the treatments. I went through the permission process and his
medical doctor agreed to two things first he would get vitamins C and E which I would supply and I could take him out for acupuncture treatments. I was amazed at how much his treatments improved his mental
alertness. During the day of his treaments he would temporarily regain his full memory. I took him to the clinic several times and during this
period his PSA dropped to one third of what it was prior to these treatments but still remained high around 120. The acupuncturist, whom I trust, was convinced she could completely cure his condition. However, he finally told
me he did not want to do it anymore and I honored his request. He passed several months later from other organ
failure not directly related to his cancer.
Knowing this my wife asked me to go to the urologist and have my PSA checked. I agreed and six years ago
at the age of fifty-five I went for my first examination. My concern with examinations is that as you go
looking for something there is an unconscious message that there should be something there. You
could re-frame the idea into going to the doctor to document your wellness and health but this is usually not the
idea. My tests each year have come back with low numbers. I have been 1.02 now for six years. My PSA results for the 7th year are 0.93 so I believe my approach is valid and practical.
I have reduced the fat in my diet just to loose weight and I routinely do modest levels of exercise. I also do other
dietary support such as taking anti-oxidants daily. Regarding herbs, I have been taking small amounts of Panax
Ginseng, Astragalus and Saw Palmetto. The Panax Ginseng and Astragalus I take to build up my lower
back and kidney I added the Saw Palmetto to further enhance the overall effect on the reproductive
system. The intention was to build up my body overall especially the lower back and kidneys but
apparently the regime is also very beneficial to my prostate. If you already have symptoms such as
frequent urination you might look into adding Pumpkin Seed Oil to your supplements and by all
means see a doctor. During the time I needed to strengthen my back 3-5 years ago I was taking them 4-5 days a week 1-2 a day. Now six years later I only take them 2-3 days a week. I occasionally take a break from this to rest my body. I might do it routinely for one to
two weeks then on days when I am not excising I will skip the herbs to give my body a rest. As my exercise
levels come back up I would pick up the herbs as a part of my supplement program. An alternate approach
would be to take the herbs 5 days then reast 2 and so forth. Additionally, at the mental level I hold sex and any creative idea or expression in a positive healthy
manor. In the more Eastern approach the energy that expresses itself through sex at the physical level also
expresses itself as creativity at the mental level. So the urge to paint a picture, start a business or invent
something would all be expressions of this energy at different levels of being. Blocking or denying this energy at
one level is one thing but blocking it at all levels would create feedback at the physical level. It is one level of
our learning process.
A last note, these herbs tend to strengthen the lower back and water element which is the kidney and bladder. Because they stimulate the kidney they may produce a mild sexual desire or act as a mild diuretic (pushing fluids out of your body). They may also strengthen a reaction from any other related therapies or medicines. In short, they might cause a stronger reaction if you are using Viagra, Levitra or Cialis. I would discuss this with the prescribing doctor or reduce my intake of one of these if you notice such an effect.
