Weight Loss

Over the years I have seen several  scenarios cause overweight conditions.

Simple thermodynamics, people eat more than they utilize which in turn causes fat cells to swell.  I have a Jewish friend who points out you did not see any overweight people coming out of the concentration camps so you know there is a point where your intake and activity level will produce weight loss.  You can today look around the world at those places deprived of food and you will see there is no obesity there.  However, this may not be a safe approach because individuals vary as to how well their body can change metabolism.  You can discover if this is your weakness by keeping an honest accurate log of what you eat and drink as well as a log of your activity.  Evaluating these two logs will tell you quickly if you need to modify your intake habits or increase your activity level.  The basic goal is simply reduce intake which can usually be done by eating lower calorie items such as vegetables, fruits,  etc. in place of snacks or processed food and then raise your activity level.  Also, up the water intake in place of any high calorie or rich liquid intake then last, increase walking or any other suitable safe exercise.  At that point give yourself time and loose weight gradually adjusting your eating and drinking to a lifestyle you enjoy and can keep over time.  In adjusting your intake lower you should consider a broad general natural based vitamin supplement insure good nutrient availability.  If you choose to use a diet work with one close to your lifestyle so you can use a modified version later to maintain your desired weigh.  If you truly believe you have a metabolism problem see a qualified physician for testing.  If I thought my metabolism was not functioning correctly I would consider taking the herb Licorice or the supplement kelp, if you are not allergic to iodine, as both of these are suggested to balance the endocrine glands which control your metabolism.   They have a gentle balancing effect on the endocrine system which over time can heal and restore proper function.

Organ weakness or dysfunction,
one night many years ago I was at my skilled facility and the local Catholic Church came in to perform services for the residents.  One of the women has very large and she had heard about Dr. Lee. He was in the building and he read her pulses.  She told him she him she ate very little and still was unable to loose weight.  He told her she had inherited from her parents a weak kidney system and her weight was the result of excessive water held in and between the cells.  He basically laid out a simple set of dietary restrictions avoiding the foods that would weaken the kidney and then telling her how to meditate so her kidneys would get stronger over time.   Other organs such as the Thyroid can also cause altered metabolism.  You can rule this out by reviewing your own personal history because it does not happen in a vacuum there are usually collaborating issues such as chronic infections, pain etc.  A good pulse reader can tell you which organ is out and last, you could have blood work performed by your physician.  I have found the pulse reader to often be more accurate than the blood work because the pulse reader sees relationships not just by products.  The Stomach/Spleen energy are the regulator of the Kidney system so blood work might show the kidney OK or weak but a pulse reader would see the Stomach is excessive and it is the cause of the Kidney weakness.  Treating the Kidney alone would be symptomatic, a temporary fix at best, and never solve the problem.  A good friend of mine Jim is a very big guy.  He went to our local acupuncturist, Dr. Ginger asking for recommendations to loose weight.  She checked him and told him his Stomach System was deficient.  She tonified his Stomach system then he proceeded to do a basic diet avoiding fast foods, increasing his water intake, no food after 8:00 and walking plus exercise 3-4 times a week.  He proceeded to loose 85 lbs over several months.  Her take on his situation was that because his Stomach System was weak he did not process his foods fully thus creating a further hunger.  Balancing his systems restored his ability to fully absorb what he ate reducing his desire for food.  Diet alone may have enabled him to loose weight but his overall health is better.  If you suspect organ weakness have your pulses read by a competent person because blood work would, in most, cases never show this kind of organ relation.

Stress eating
can be a cause.  If you enjoy the correct weight and eating habits while on breaks or vacations then put weight on during work or stress periods you are a stress eater.  You need to change how you respond to stress but until that time you might consider using the homeopathic compound Calmes or the herbs Skullcap and Chamomile.  Skullcap is usually suggested for the more mental worrier but experiment until you discover which allows you to relax during stress periods.  Again a capsule or cup of tea each day is safe and will help.  Valerian is also used by some but it is a powerful
relaxer and I would consider it last.  If you can find low calorie food substitutes keep them convenient so you eat them first.  In the end you need to loose the stress reaction so explore ways to relax and get back in control of your being.

Last cause, emotional trauma or mental emotional programming, I have seen many women come to one of my
classes who had a trauma in their personal life which impacted their self image in such a way to produce obesity.   Many had an emotional moment where their father, brother or someone close to them might comment they were looking good or something flattering and the reaction was so great as to produce a strong inner drive to not be desirable.  The excess pounds become a defensive maneuver.  It was the little girl wanting to remain the loved child and nothing more.  Boys have their own moments and are just as vulnerable.  These moments usually occur around puberty but they can happen at any age.  However, there are many possible traumas or in some cases just good old parental programming.  There are situations where a child is told daily they will be just like their mother or father who is much bigger than they should be or that certain high fat foods are good for you and the program becomes the reality.  It is important to nderstand that this experience set in motion the situation in life today and changing how this is perceived alters how it impacts the body today.  You can undo these experiences by several approaches.  There is power in every moment and by changing the way you see yourself you can undo much that lies within.  Start by gently holding your breath and simply asserting you are happily loosing weight in a healthy way and see yourself as you wish to be.  As you let go of this image pay attention to what you think or feel.  If nothing happens simply repeat the process several times a day for a week.  Generally if you make such a suggestion and you have an unconscious program running you will get a feedback answer. It is usually a memory or something you can relate to in a personal way.  There is no generic incantation that works for all people because we remember things in a very individual way.  However, this message is telling you it is not taking your new idea and is instead running the old program.  You would need to keep using the moment, in a gentle way, to put your new idea into the unconscious.  At some point you will not get different feedback but you will discover you find an article giving you key information about weight loss or you desire different food.  In short, some sign of change will tell something has shifted and you are on your way.  Allow your inner mind to guide you to a healthy new lifestyle.  Keep holding your new self image until you get where you want to go.  In extreme situations you may discover an experience you may want to share with a close friend or counselor.  In such cases allow the emotions to flow then change how you view that memory so you can remember it without it causing your problem.  You can also use compound anchoring where you take any one stimulus and set up your problem all the way back to the first moment you were aware of it and anything going on in your life at that time.  Then set up another stimulus with the remembered or imagined therapy, see my page on anchoring, then stimulate both together while asserting your desired outcome.  Other resources would be psychologists, NLP or hypnosis therapists.  You can go the route of the psychiatrist but only do medicine short term.   Substituting chemicals for action is foolish.  Get free not dependent.
